HomeMy Public PortalAbout1954_12_31SPEC • 67 Mr. Lawson Cowart, Civil Defense Administaator for Loudoun County, appeared before Council and asked the Council to what extent the Town would want to enter into the Civil Defense program. Mr. Cowart said he would outline a plan and have it ready for the Council at their February meeting. • conneg,isrs. Lee and Downs appeared before Council and asked for permission to a water line to the town water system. On motion of Morton Riddle, III and seconded by Emersbn H. dames and unanimously carried, Council agreed to permit Messrs. Lee and Downs to connect with the town water line of a specified diameter after a contract between them and the twon had been drawn up by the Town Attorney. ' Mr. -John.Deidrich, Postmaster, appeared before Council and stated that ddor to door mail delivery in the town was now possible if the people wanted it. On motion of Frank Raflo, seconded by Howard B. Gill and unanimously'carried Council voted to go on record as favoring town delivery of all mail. Mayor Lowenback announced that there would be a meeting of all civic clubs and other interested persons in the Council Chamber on Monday evening, January 3, 1955 at 8:00 o'clock P. M. at which time it would be determined whether a year round recreation program for the youth of the town could be developed, paid for and put into effect, On motion of Morton Riddle, III, seconded by Emerson H. James and carried • - - by a vote of 5 to 0 (Gill not voting), the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the • Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to each member of the Leesburg Volunteer Company, the sum of $20.00 as a Christmas gift. On motion of Emerson H. James, seconded by Frank Raflo and unanimously carried the following resolution was. adopted: . • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Town agrees to pay'the electric light bill for the Christmas lights and the Mayor is authorized to sign the application for said Christmas lights on behalf of the town. . • .1111 On motion of Regibald K. Gheen, seconded by Frank Raflo and-unanimously carried, granted the request of W. R. Altizer, to'erect a sign above the street sign at the intersection og King & Market streets, denoting the direction of historic White's Ferry, said sign to meet with the approval of the Street Committee and the Highway Department. The Mayor read a letter from Chief of Police Boyd of Wichester, Va., inviting members of the Leesburg police department to attend a Police School to be held in Winchester during January and February, 1955. Gheen, seconded by Morton Riddle, III, and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, the Auditor-Treasurer has presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia a quarterly report and annual report of all receipts and analysis of all disbursements for the months of October, November, and December, 1954, and for the year ending December;31, 1954, NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, that the said quarterly, and annual report be,and it is hereby accepted by the said Council, • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to have a copy of the said quarterly report published in a newspaper published in said Town and also to post a copy of said report in front of Court House in said Town.
