HomeMy Public PortalAbout1956_11_20SPEC 70 SPECIAL - NOVEMBER 20 , 1956 At a special meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, November 20, 1956, at 5 :30 o! clock P. M. , there were present E. B. White, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett , Recorder, George J. Durfey, Reginald K. Gheen, C. R. Hollandsworth, and Dr. James T. Jackson, Councilmen. Upon motion of George J. Durfey, seconded by Reginald K. Gheen, and unanimously carried, the following resolution was ,. adopted. BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer, be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to Donald H. Selevage the sum of $6,689.36 for the extra work and material over and above that which was set forth in Mr. Selevage' s contract, and the same has been approved by Mr. Warren C. Perrow in a letter dated November 16, 1956 , and is on file in the Town Office. Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by C. R. Hollands- worth, and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted : BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer, be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay Mr. Warren C. Perrow, the sum of $4,352.04 in accordance with an agreement between the said Mr. Perrow and the Town of Leesburg. Upon motion of George J. Durfey, seconded by Dr. James T. Jackson and .unanimously carried, the following resolution was . adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia , that the escrow agreement dated October 10 , 1955, between the Town of Leesburg, The Loudoun National Bank of Lees- burg, and the Manufacturers Trust Company, Escrow Agent, be, and the same is hereby terminated, and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Escrow Agent is auth- orized and instructed to release and deliver to The Loudoun National Bank of Leesburg, $100,000 United States of America Treasury bonds , 2i%, due June 15, 1959-62, which were held as security under thesaid agreement, and, BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER that The Loudoun National Bank of Leesburg and the Escrow Agent are hereby fully discharged from all and any further liability under the aforementioned - escrow agreement . Upon motion of Dr. James T. Jackson, seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth, and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted. r BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer, be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to Bartenstein and Associates, the sum of 02,000.00 as a partial payment on the services rend- ered regarding annexation. Upon motion of Dr. James T. Jackson, seconded by Reg- inald K. Gheen, and unanimously carried; the following resol- ution was adopted : BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the 1Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that thelAuditor-Treasurer, be, andihe is hereby auth- orized and directed to charge off any town taxes against the Lees- burg Volunteer Fire Company, for the year 1956. Upon motion of George J. Durfey, seconded by C. R. Hol - landsworth, and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted. 71 • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer, be; and he .is hereby authorized and directed to charge off taxes in the amount of $8.67, assessed against Harry I. Tiffany for parcel of land .located on Waterford Road, the same being the lot purchased 'by ' the Town of Leesburg through Condemnation proceedings. Mayor White read a letter from Second Lt. Roderick Daffan of the 280th Field Artillery Battalion of the Virginia National Guard, in which they requested permission to .use the second floor ' of the Town Hall Building, and upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth, and:aunanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Mayor, be, and he is hereby authorized and requested to work out an agreement with the 280th Field Artillery Battalion of the Virginia National Guard for permission to use the second floor of the Town Office Building. B. White, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, Reginald K. Gheen, Howard B. Gill, C. R. Hollandsworth, and Dr. James T. Jackson, Councilmen. Council spent some time in discussing the parking problems of the town. Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen seconded by Howard B. Gill and unamin- ously carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, -by- the Council- of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that • W. R. Altizer be and -he- is hereby authorized and directed to do the following work for the Town of -Leesburg; On the new parking lot that -adjoins the -Newkirk property and connects to original parking lot;- grade,- and place 6" crushed run stone base and water bond. Surface to consistof -two applications -as prime and seal coarse using 4/10 gal; RC3T asphalt and $O Ibs; #9 crushed- stone- as prime coarse, and 5/10 gal; RC3T asphalt and 201bs; #llcrushed stone- as a sealed coarse. The price for the said work to be in -the amount of $1;138.00. - Upon motion of Howard B. Gill seconded by Reginald K. Gheen and unaminous- ly carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council- of the Torn of Leesburg in Virginia that W. R. Altize& -be and •he is hereby employed- to do the following work for the Town of Leesburg; Approximately 1I30- square-yards of the parking lot north of the Town Office, to be surfaced using -bJ10 •gallons RC3T asphalt per square yard and 30 lbs; #9 stone as prime coarse, and 5/10 gallons RC3T asphalt and 20 lbs; #11 stone as seal coarse. The price for the-said-work to be in the amount of $ 795.00. Upon motion of Howard B. Gill seconded by Reginald K. Gheen and unaminous- ly carried the following resolution-was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN, of Leesburg in Virginia that W. R. Altizer-be and 'he' is hereby employed to do the following work for the the Town of Leesburg; - ' ' ' ' - ' ' ' Construct concrete- curb and hhack top-walk- on the south side of Route #7 begining at the end of concrete walk now in place and extending to town limits, a distance of approximately 1105 lineal feet. Curb to be class "B" concrete placed 12" below ground level and 6" above ground level 6" thick on one side of black walk (road Side). Proper amount of base stone and 2" depth hot plant mix black top to be placed and rolledto top inside of curb 4' in width. The price for the said work shall be $ 1,120.00
