HomeMy Public PortalAbout1957_02_13 7.6 REGULAR February, 13, 1957 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday February, 13, 1957, at 7 :30o ' clock P. M; there were present E. B. White, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, George J. Durfey, Reg- inald K. Gheen, Howard B. Gill, C. R. Hollandsworth, and Dr. James T. -Jackson, Councilmen. The minutes of the last regular meeting were read, and upon motion of Howard B. Gill , seconded by George J. Durfey, and unam- inously carried were approved as read. • The Auditor-Treasurer presented his monthly report for the month of Janurary 1957 and presented his current bills, and upon motion of C. R. Hollandsworth, seconded by Reginald K. . Gheen and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted : 3E IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Vitinia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authoriz- ed and directed to navy the following bill : Virginia Electric & Powere• Co • $ 301. 68 C & P Telohone Company 36.80/ Hankey' s Radio Service 8.00 ' Pifer Stationery and Office Supply . . 3. 25 ' Community Oil Company 144. 17 ' Loudoun-Times Mirror 54.40 ' Newton & Kaufman 1. 25 ' • L. Whitmore 1.05' $1,639. 60 ' Council discussed at some length the matter of an ordinance regarding the storage and handling of_ trash and garbage, and CouR- cil requested The Trash and Garbage Committee to present to Cour:- at their next meeting an ordinance covering this problem for their consideration. Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by George J. Durfey and unaminously carried, Council -authorized the Auditor-Treasurer to pay Jessie Randooh at the same rate as set forth in his last years contract, until a suitable contract had been signed by Jessie Ran- dolph and the Town of Leesburg for the collection of Trash and gar- bage for this year. Councilman Gheen called to the attention of Council the need of street repair for many of the streets in the town, also he felt that there was a real need for a traffic light at the intersection of King and Loudoun Streets. Council requested the Street Committee to contact the Highway Deoattment and see what could be done regard- ing this matter, of erecting a traffic light. • Uvcn?motion of Reginald K. Gheen seconded by C. R. Hollands- worth and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted ; • 3E IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized and request- i ed to reply to the request of the Loudoun County Hospital Inc ; concerting the purchase of a portion of Tiffinay Tract of land and advise the Hospital, that the Town will sell to the Hospital lot # 1 . of Perrow Plat= dated 11/30/ 56, less a 10foot strip on the south• side of said lot # 1, and the cost for the said land will be at the actual prorate cost of said land to the Town of Leesburg. • Mr. George Ward of the Town of Leesburg Planning Commission reported to the Council certain recommendations regarding Loudoun County' s .proposed Sub-Division Ordinance, and after full considera- tion, upon motion duly made by Reginald K. Gheen and seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth , the following resolution was !_unanimously adopted : RESOLVED, That the Chairman of the Town Plan- ning Commission be and he is hereby authorized to advise the County Planning Commission that in its consideration of the proposed Subdivision Ordinance • ` ' of Loudoun County , Virginia , it is the recommendation • t.hof the Town Planning Commission. that Section 2-16 be C4 amended by inserting the word "two" in lieu of the 01 word "three" in the first clause of said sentence; secondly, that before the words "chief engineering Q officer" in Section 5-1 . 1 there be inserted the sr words "Town Planning Commission and/or" ; and third , that at the end of the first sentence of Section • 8-1 . 1 the period be changed to a comma and the following words added "and two ( 2) copies thereof delivered to the Town Planning Commission." AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chairman of -the Town Planning Commission be and he is here- by requested to suggest to the County Planning Com- mi-ssion that it give consideration to the amend- ments heretofore submitted by Howard W. Vesey , Esquire , which said amendments have been referred to but not given formal consideration by thecCouncil .
