HomeMy Public PortalAbout1957_04_08 8.4 REGULAR APRIL 8, 1957 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on Monday April 8, 1957 at 7:30 ' o'clock P.M., there were present E. B. White, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, George J: Durfey, Reginald K. Gheen, Howard B. Gill, C. R.Hollandsworth, Dr: JamesaTIsJackson',rand Mrs. Mae Bass Mitchell. The minutes of the regular meeting of March 11, 1957 and the Special meeting of February 25, 1957 were read and upon motion of C. R. Hollandsworth, seconded by Reginald K. Gheen,theyuwerenunanzmously-approved asread. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly'statement for the month of March, 1957 and his quarterly report for the months of January, February and March, 1957 and upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth and unanimously carried, the following resolutionrwas adopted: WHEREAS, the Auditor-Treasurer has *presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia a Quarterly report oW all receipts and an analysis of all disbursements for the months of January, February and March, 1957; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED By the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the said quarterly report be and it is hereby accepted by the said Council; and . BE 1T FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to have a copy of the said quarterly report published in a news- paper published in the said town and also post a copy of said report in front of the Court House in said town. The Auditor-Treasurer presented his current bills, and upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth and unanimously carried, the following resolutior .zas adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, _ that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay the following bills: • Virginia Electric & Power Company $ 276.23 C & P Telephone Company of Virginia - - - - 45.20 Hankey's Radio Service - - - - 8.00 J. U.S. Post Office, Leesburg, Va.(Paid 2/20/57) 95.20 $1,052.74 • Mrs. Mary Lee West appeared before Council to ascertain if the Town would consider an application for the operation of a slaughter house and processing plant. Mayor White requested Councilman Jackson and Durfey to make an investigation of this matter. Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by Dr. James T. Jackson and carried by a vote of 5-0, Durfey not voting, the following resolution gas adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, 85 • that the Mayor be and he is hereby authorized and directed to inform the Loudoun County Hospital, Inc., that their request to purchase Lot No. 2, less 10 feet/ of Town property known as the Tiffany Tract, as shown on Perrow's Plat dated 11/30/56 at the actual prorata cost of said land to . • the Town of Leesburg, is hereby approved. - • Council requested the Auditor-Treasurer to have "No Trespassing" signs placed at the town's new"ater tank. Upon motion of Dr. James T. Jackson, seconded by Reginald K. Gheen and unanimously carried the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg; in Virginia, that tie Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay to Roger Powell the sum of $25.00 for dispatching Police radio and Fire calls. Upon motion of C. R. Hollandsworth, seconded by Reginald K. Gheen and unanimously carried the following rhsolution was adopted: • BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, Cr: that the new Loudoun County Subdivision Ordinance adopted by the Loudoun ex County Supervisors on March 4, 1957 be and the same is hereby disapproved. et - - - - . . ►-� - Mayor White read 'a letter from Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern in which they' requested -the payment -in full for service rendered. This matter was referrei•to the-Town' Attorney: - - The Refuse Committee made a report on the Trash & Garbage Ordinance. SPECIAL APRIL 29, 1957 • At a Special Meeting of the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chambers Monday, April 29, 1957 at 8:00 o'clock F.M. . there were present: Elijah B. White, Mayor, Reginald K. Gheen, Howard B. Gill, George J. Durfey, C.R. Hollandsworth and Mrs. Mae Bass Mitchell, Councilmen. Irithe absence of the Recorder, Councilman Durfey was appointed to serve as Recorder Pro-tem. Councilman Gheen of the Finance Committee explained that the purpose of the meeting was for members of Council to examine and discuss a preliminary budget now being prepared for the coming fiscal year. 1957-58 and which would be officially submitted to Council at its next regular meeting in May. Upon motion of Councilman Gheen, seconded by Councilman Gill and unanimously carried, the bid of W.R. Altizer submitted on November 26, 1956 for the construction of a blacktop sidewalk from the parking lot behind the Town Office through the Ritchie property and thence through an alley connecting up with King Street, in the amount of $598.00, be accepted, work to begin immediately.
