REGULAR May, 13, 1957.
At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of the town
of Leesburg in Virginia, there were present E. B. White Mayor,
Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, George J. Durfey, Reginald K. Gheen,
Howard B. Gill, C. R. Hollandsworth, Dr. James T. Jackson, and
Mrs. Mae Bass Mitchell , Councilmen.
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 8th ; 1957 and
the special meeting of April 29th ; 1957 were read and upon mot-
ion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by George J. Durfey and un-
aminously carried were approved as read. I/• ' The Auditor-Treasurer presented his monthly report for the
month of April 1957, and his current bills, and upon motion of
Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by George J. Durfey and unaminous-
ly carried the following resolution was adopted :
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in
Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby auth-
orized and directed to pay the following bills :

Councilman Durfey and Jackson reported to Council that they
had made an inspection of the establishment operated by Mrss West
and formerly known as the Leesburg Ice Plant and that there had
been. a grest improvement in the sanitation in theestablishment
and the equipment, however they did feel that a slaughter house
should be onerated •with in the town limits.
Cbuncil defered any action 'on Mrs. West letter, and. requested
the Town' s Attorney to draw up necessary ordinance prohibiting
the operation of a slaughter house in the town if he felt the
town' s present ordinance was not satisfactory.
The Town's Attorney was not present to report on what ac-
tion he had taken regarding the letter from Hayes, Saey, Matter-
. en and Matteren, which was turned over to him for his advise in •
this matter.
Councilman Jackson, submitted to Council an ordinance gov-
erning the storage, handling, and disposing of trash and gabb-
age in the town of Leesburg, with cettain suggestion for con-
sideration. After a full discussion of this matter and upon Tot-
ion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded -by Howard B. Gill and unam-
inously carried the following resolution was adopted :
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in •
Virginia that the Town/ Attorney be instructed to confer with
.the Refuse Committee and redraw the ordinance y,ith certain changes
being made.
Mr. Steve Savopoulos appeared before Council and requested
that East Alco Street be repaired. Council assured Mr. Savopoulos
that it was doing every thing possible to repair all of the streets
in the town and they would surely consider his request.

The Recorder submitted a telegram he had received from Mr.
Warren C. Perrow in which he recommended that- the Loudoun Coun-
ty School Board be given permission to connect the sewer line
from the proposed Douglass School to the Town of Leesburg sew- .
age system, and upon motion of Dr. James T. Jackson, seconded
by Reginald K. Gheen and unaminously carried the following re-
solution was adopted :
BE IT RESOLVED, byethe Council of the Town of Leesburg
in Virginia that in compliance with the recommendation of Mr.
Warren C. Perrow that the Loudoun County School Board be and
they are hereby given permission to connect the sewer line
from the proposed Douglass School to the towns sewage system,
and that the Division Supt; of Schools be advised by letter
as to the cost of the said sewer connection and cost of dis-
. posing of the sewage from the said school.

•---Councilman Gheen of the Finance Committee submitted a
proposed budget to Council for the fiscal year begining July
1, 1957 and ending June 30, 1958 and upon motion of Reginald
-k. Gheen seconded by C. R. Hollandswevth and unaminously carr-

M ion ) the following resolution waa adopted:

• BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in
Virginia that the proposed budget be further considered at
a special meeting to be held in the Council Chamber on June
• 3rd ; 1957 at 8 :00 P. M. , and at which time the citizens of the
-town would be given an opportunity to express their views re-
garding the said proposed budget and that the siad budget be
published once in a newspaper in the Town of Leesbur.
There being no further business and upon motion duly made
-seconded and carried Council adjourned.

Mr. Ben Curry of the Koontz Equipment Corporati m appeared before
.Council and discussed plans for metering the town's new parking lot.
Council authorized the Auditor-Treasurer to contract for 76 parking meters
to be placed on the parking lot and that the location of the meters are
to be approved by the Engineer-Inspector and the Street Committee.

SPECIAL June 3, 1957
At a special meeting of the Mayor and Council of the town of Leesburg
in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber Monday June 3rd; 1957, at 8:00
o'clock P. M; there were present E. B. White Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, -Re-
_ --corder, George J. Durfey, Reginald K. Gheen , Howard B. Gill, C. R. Hollands-
worth and Mae Bass Mitchel Councilmen.
Mayor White stated that the special meeting had been called and adver-
tised for the purpose of giving any citizen of the Town of Leesburg the op-
portunity to express his views concerning the proposed budget for the fiscal
year begining July 1, 1957 and ending June 30, 1958.
Three citizens were present and discussed the budget breifly, but
made no recommendations for any changes.
At 8:45 P. M; the Mayor declared the discussion of-the said budget
• closed.
