At a regular meeting of.the_Mayor.and.Council_of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held in the Council Chamber on•Monday, ,July 8, 1957, at 7:30 o'clock, P. M., there were present E. _B. The minutes of the regular meeting of June 10, 1957 and the special meeting of June 17, 1957 were read and upon motion of Howard B. Gill seconded by Reginald K. Gheen and unanimously carried were approved as read. -111 The minutes of the special meeting of July 5, 1957 were read and upon motion of Mae Bass Mitchell seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth and unamimously carried were approved as ,read. The Auditor-Treasurer read his monthly report for the month of June 1957, his quarterly report for the quarter ending June 30, 1957, and his annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1957, and upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, sedonded by Howard B. Gill, and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, the Auditor-Treasurer has this day presented to the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, a quarterly report of all receipts, and an analysis of all disbursements for the months of April, May and June, 1957. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the said quarterly report of the Auditor-Treasurer, be, and it is hereby approved and accepted by the said Council. • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer, be, and he is hereby authorized and instructed to have a copy of the said quarterly report published once in a newspaper published in the said "'own, and also, .post a copy of said report in front of the .Court House in the said Town. The Auditor-Treasurer presented his current bills and upon motion of C. R. Hollandsworth, seconded by Reginald K. Gheen, and unanimously carried, the following . resolution was adopted: . Conrad, Winslow Williams and Morton Riddle, III, Judges of I the Town Election held on June 11, 1957, have certified that George J. Durfey received 242 votes for Mayor; Elinor M. Cunningham received 247 votes for Recorder; Reed Johnson received 236 votes for Councilman; Oden Semones received 229 votes for Councilman; Howard B. Gill received 218 votes for Councilman; C. R. Hollandsworth received 180 votes for Councilman; Mae Bass Mitchell received 174 votes for Council- man; J; Austin Wright received 162 votes for Councilman; E. S. Dal.Tey, received 155 : ._ votes for Councilman; William J. Lough received 143 votes for Councilman; Herman f Costello received 104 votes for Councilman; Albert M. Ba;.ber were elected to the respective offices for which they were candidates, -- NOW, THEREFORE, BE JT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the following persons be and they are hereby declared to have been duly elected for the term beginning September 1, 1957 and ending August 31, 1959; George J. Durfey, Mayor; Elinor M. Cunningham, hecorder; Reed Johnson, Oden Semones; Howard B. Gill, C.•$. Hollandsworth, Mae Bass Mitchell and J. Austin Wright, Council- man. • Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by Howard B. Gill and unani- mously carried the following resolution was adopted: - • RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the T. Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to advertise for bids for a police car for the use of the said Town of Leesburg. - - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That bids be requested on the,f ollow ng makes of automobiles: Ford, Chevrolet and Plymouth. The bids are to be on two(2) door sedan, black color, with standard gear-shift, equipped with heater and spare tire. 9,9 AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to advertise for bids for rental of a police. car as specified above. Bids will be opened in the Council Chambers in the Town of Leesburg on August 12, 1957, at 8:00 P. M. Upon motion of Howard B. Gill seconded by Mae Bass Mitchell and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted;. BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, .that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to request bids for a 12 volt two way radio to be usedd� in the town's police car. Mr. Frank Carirell and Mr. Julian Tarrant of the Town of Leesburg Planning comm- ission appeared before the Council and presented and discussed a proposed Zoning ordinance, upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth, and unaminously carried the following resolution was adopted, .BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia, that the N Council receive the.proposed zoning ordinance submitted by the Town of Leesburg M Planning 6ommission, that a public hearing be held August 6th, 1957 at.8 p.M; in Qthe Council Chamber and that due notice of publication be made. .Mrs. Mitchell presented to Council a request for the installation of a street 1,•••4light on Liberty between Market and Loudoun Streets. The matter was refered to the • Street Committee. Mayor White read a letter from the Leesburg Laundry in which they requested permission to connect the laundry waste line from their plant to the town's sewer system. Council requested Mayor White to inform the. Leesburg Laundry that they may connect the waste line from the laundry to the town's sewer system providing the connect'`be approved by the Town of Leesburg's Engineer. .Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, .seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth and unam- inously carried Council voted to go into an executive session. Upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen seconded by Howard B. Gill and unaminously carried Council votedto return to the regular session. ,There being no further business and upon motion duly made seconded and carr- ied Council adjourned. Mayor. Recorder. • REGULAR MEETING, August 12, 1957 At a regular meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held at the Council Chambers on August 12, 1957, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., there were present E. B. White, Mayor, Horace M. Hallett, Recorder, George J. Durfey, Reginald K. Gheen, Howard B. Gill, C. R. Hollandsworth, Dr. James T. Jackson, and Mrs. Mae Bass Mitchell, Councilmen. The minutes of the regular meeting of July 8th, 1957, were read and upon motion of Reginald K. Gheen, seconded by Howard B. Gill, and unanimously carried, were approved as read. At 8:00 P.:M., Mayor White stated that in compliance with the minutes of July, 1957, the bids for the purchase or rental of a police car were to be opened. He opened and submitted to the Town Council bids from the Brock Chevrolet, Inc., Colonial Motor Sales, Inc., and Parker Motor Company, Inc. The Parker Motor Company was the only bidder who submitted a bid for the rental of a town police car. Upon notion of Howard B. Gill, seconded by C. R. Hollandsworth, and unanimous- ly carried, the following resolution was adopted.
