HomeMy Public PortalAbout1959_02_02SPEC 216 other than for "R-1" uses ; the properties fronting on King Street and lying North of Cornwall Street would be zoned for other than "B-1" uses, being the same zoning districts designated for the properties located as aforesaid in an ordinance defining the uses permitted therein which here- tofore was proposed and thereafter was acted upon by the Town, said ordinance consisting of thirty-one numbered typewritten pages being designated "Zoning Ordinance, Tom of Leesburg, Effective August 15, 3958." Plaster, Tees:, Leesburg • Methodist Church Thomas W. diZerega, Esquire , was then heard with respect to his views as concerned the Proposed Zoning Ordinance and' Zoning Map . Mr. diZerega was speaking on behalf of Mr . .R. K. Gheen, Mr. B. Powell Harrison, Mr. Milton Myers, Pr. Prank Raflo and Mr . Herbert Sumney . Wilbur C. Hall, Esquire, representing Mr . Kulzer, advised that Mr . Kulzer ' s problem had been taken care of by the proposed Zoning Map. Mr. Robert Stevens and Mr . B. Powell Harrison were both consistent in their opinion that the zoning laws of the Town should be as strict as those of neighboring communities so as to avoid the possibility of newcomers coming to Leesburg and Loudoun to avoid more strict zoning regulations . • The Mayor then advised that the Town of Leesburg had a Zoning Administrator and an office and that any questions the citizens might have could be answered if interested persons' would but go to this office . Monday, February 2, 1959, there • were present George J. Durfey, Mayor ; C. Meloy Fishback, How 'd • B. Gill, Mae Bass Mitchell, Meed Johnson, Oden Semones and J. AUSTIN Wright . In the absence of the Recorder Mrs . Mitchell was elected Recorder pro-tem. The Mayor stated that the purpose of this Meeting was to consider the matter of granting temporary or permanent franchises to companies for the delivering of supplies in connection with the Washington International Airport. 217 . • Upon motion of Mr. Gill, seconded by Mr . Wright and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, ' in Virginia, that a protest be sent to the Interstate Conmbnceon Commission in the matter of granting a temporary or permanent franchise to any company or companies, for the trucking of cement or supplies, in connection with the construction of the Washington International Airport, over the narrow streets and through the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, it being thebelief of this Council that so to do would interrupt the conduct o.f the normal life and business of -said Town, create a traffic hazard and impose a financial burden on said Town for the maintenande and upkeep of its streets . - ' COUNCIL FOR THE TOWN OF LEESBURG, IN VIRGINIA BY; George J. C. 2 There being no further business to come before the meeting , the meeting upon motion duly made and seconded, adjourned. ds (� Recorder aro-tem v' ;drP C� SPECIAL FEBRUARY 9, 1959 At a Special Meeting of the Mayor and Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, held on Monday, Febryary 9, 1959 at 5:00 o'clock P.M., in the Council Chambers, the following were present: George J. Durfey, Mayor; Howard B. Gill, C. Maloy Fishback, Reed Johnson; Oden K. Semones, Austin J. Wright, Councilmen and George M. Martin Town Attorney. • The Recorder being absent, Councilman Gill was appointed Recorder Pro-tem. The Mayor stated'that the meeting had been called to consider the case of officer Samuel H. Barton, of the Police Department. On motion of Howard B. Gill, seconded by Austin J. Wright and unanimously carried, Council went into executive session. On motion of Howard B. Gill, seconded by Austin J. Wright and unanimo4ly carried Council went back into regular session. Officer Samuel H. Barton was called before council and tendered his resignation to become effective immediately at 6:00 P.M. (EST) February 9, 1959.
