Special City Council Minutes, Feb. 93 The Tybee Island City Council held a Special called Meeting on Monday, February 22, 1992 in the City Hall at 9 A. M. Mayor Walter W. Parker presided. Members of Council present were the following: Jack Youmans, Jimmy Brown, Ansley Williams and Burke Day. Councilman Jack Youmans moved to adopt a Resolution for the Chatham County Commissioner concerning the proposal of capital projects for the one cent sales tax referendum. Councilman Jimmy Brown seconded. The vote by council was unanimous. (Copy of Resolution attached and becomes a part of these minutes. Councilman Youmans motioned to table any decisions on the copier machine for City Hall until further information is presented. Councilman brown seconded. Vote by Council was unanimous. The meeting was adjourned. 1 1 1 1 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Board Of Commissioners of Chatham County will be considering qualified capital projects for funding through the 1% Special Purpose Sales Tax and presenting them to the voters for approval; and WHEREAS, Georgia state law limits use of the 1% Special Purpose Sales Tax for roads and certain capital projects which benefit the community; and WHEREAS, the Tybee Pier and Pavillion would be a "recreational" project, which would be qualified under the law, and which could be funded under the terms and conditions of the sales tax law; and WHEREAS, the Tybee Pier and Pavillion would expand recreation for residents and visitors, strengthen visitation to a unique setting in this region of the state and recapture a nostalgic part of our community's heritage. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, because of these benefits to our community, the City Council of Tybee Island requests that the County Commission include on the sales tax referendum, "...not more than $3 million for the purpose of the Tybee Pier and Pavillion and beautification project" IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of Tybee Island, Georgia to be affixed this llth day of February, 1993.
