HomeMy Public PortalAbout1960_08_08 349 SPECIAL MEETING, AUGUST 1, 1960 A special meeting of- the Council for the Town- of Leesburg, in Virginia, was held August 1, 1960 at 5:30 P. M. Mayor George J. Babson called the meeting to -order. at 5:35. P . M. There were present C. Maloy Fishback, George E. Isaacs, Emerson H. James, John W. Pumphrey and Austin J. Wright, Councilmen. -1/ • The first business to come before the meeting was the request of Albert F. Anderson, Esquire, Attorney at Law, for the release from the lien of the Town' s third deed of trust on Lot No. 3 in Section II of the Parker Subdivision. It appeared that the Council would go along with this line of procedure but no formal resolution was adopted. Thernext order of business was a discussion with respect to the Trailer Camp operated by Leonard W. Parker . The Council r• instructed the appropriate Town officials to do as they had been directed at the last regular meeting on July 25, 1960 . Q Q The next business was the matter of Crider and Schokey r-. with respect to using town water. By mutual agreement the Mayor was instructed to proceed with the proper executive • action deemed pertinent. The Mayor read a letter from' the Federal Avia.ticon;!Agency with respect to the water line to -their new proposed building and upon unanimous consent the Mayor was instructed to prepare a letter to said agency, to the end that it could be determined just what Federal aid could be- obtained in this respect. The Mayor then absented himself from the meeting and the II Recorder took the chair. A letter from George J. Babson, Mayov addressed to the Recorder, was read in full. This letter purported to be a veto of a resolution previously adopted on July 25', 1960, concerning the proposed water line to "Dry Mill Subdivision" owned by G. S. Myers and E. Frank Myers, III. After much discussion it was decided by the Council that this matter would be tabled until the next meeting so that more consideration could be given to the proble - ' -Volved. Upon motion of, Mr. Isaacs , se s sc.! sale ishback , the meeting adjourned. 1101 140101-4 May o • REGULAR MEETING, AUGUST 8, 196e A regular meeting of the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, was held August 8, 1960 at 8:00 P. M. George J. Babson, Mayor, called the meeting to order at 8:05. There were present: C. Maloy Fishback, George E. Isaacs, Hunter M. Leach, John W. Pumphrey and Austin J. Wright. The minutes of the meeting of July 25 were approved as read. ' The minutes of the special meeting of August 1 were read • and approved with the following deletion and addition: " this matter would be tabled until the next meeting" , the same being the deletion, and adding: "no action was taken" 35.0 • The Auditor.Treasurer' s report was presented and approved as read. It was mutually agreed that Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000 .00) be drawn from the Water Fund and deposited in the Water and Sewer Construction Fund. Upon motion of Mr. Fishback, seconded by Mr. Pumphrey , the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council for the Town of Lees- burg, in Virginia, that a Variance be, and. the same hereby is granted Mrs. William F. Rust, under Section V-1 (a) (b) (c) of the 'Leesburg Subdivision Ordinance, as was recommended by the Leesburg Planning Commission. Upon motion of Mr. Pumphrey, seconded by Mr. 'Fishback, the following resolution was adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council for the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that Edward C . Swain be employed as a Tom Police Officer beginning September 1, 1960, and on a permanent basis under the regular terms of employment. Upon motion of Mr. Isaacs, seconded by Mr. Wright, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, that the Auditor-Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to charge off the license and penalty assessed against Robert B. Young, Attorney at Law, in the Town of Leesburg, for the fiscal year 196U-1961 . Upon motion of Mr. Fishback, seconded by Mr. Wright, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council for the Town of Leesburg, • in Virginia, that the resolution adopted July: 25, 1960, with respect to the water line to Dry Mill Subdivision be, and the same is hereby tabled until the next�y�- g.
