Subject: Beach Stabilization
The Ga Ports & the Beach Task Force have asked for approval on the
following priorities:
A. Endorse the state's requests:
1.) That our coastal engineer, Olsen, proceed with the
design for the south groins
2.) That Olsen provide a definitive narrative description
with cubic yard measures of his recommendations regarding the
"dramatic overfill of the Seconded Street erosion hot spot."
3.) That the estimated total cost of the $49,500 for this
work be broken down between the two projects for funding purposes.
B. Approve the expenditure of approximately $11,800 for state and
COE permits, which includes approximately $2,000 for overflights of
the beach that will be needed. These funds will originally come
from the city's beach renourishment line item, to be reimbursed
from the Governor's south end groin funds and from the funds
allocated for this purpose by the 1% sales tax funds from Chatham
County.
C. It is also recommended that Council authorize the compilation
of estimated costs for crossover structures, seeds for dune
planting, dune - shaping, etc.
