1994- 03 -16. Special Called Council Meeting
Mayor James P. Locklear called the special meeting to order
with the following members of Council present: Paul Jackson,
Burke Day, Jr., William Remeta, Jack Youmans, and Katrina
Hughes. Councilmember O'Dell was excused due to a conflict of
interest. City Attorney Edward Hughes was present to represent
the city in the legal matter. Mayor Locklear turned the meeting
over to City Attorney Hughes.
City Attorney Edward Hughes stated that the reason for the
special meeting was to reconsider the alcohol beverage licenses
application for Mr. Gil McMahon of the Blind Pelican that was
denied last week at the regular Council meeting. Mr. Hughes
stated that there appeared to be confusion on the part of the
Mayor and some councilmembers due to the ongoing Bruns /McMahon
litigation. Mr. Hughes stated that the city is not going to get
in the middle of the Burns /McMahon dispute. Mr. Hughes stated
that Mr. McMahon has applied for a 1994 license and that his
application has to be determined on its own merits.
Councilmember Day moved to approve the Alcohol Beverage
license for the Blind Pelican. Councilmember Youmans seconded.
Vote by Council was 4 in favor (Day, Youmans, Remeta, Jackson);
1 opposed (Hughes).
Mayor Locklear adjourned the meeting.
