HomeMy Public PortalAbout1966_06_03SPEC WAIVER OF NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 3, 1966 We, the undersigned, being members of the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, do severally waive all statutory and Charter requirements as to notice of time, place and purpose of a Special Meeting of the Town Council and consent that the meeting shall be held in the Council Chambers of the Town Council at 10:30 A.M. , Friday, June 3, 1966, for the purpose of granting permission to the Leesburg Baptist Church to acquire ten (10) acres of land in the Town o£ Leesburg, and any such other business as may come before said Council. ,A1:0-;"e)t K nneth B. B., D.S.T., on Friday, June 3, 1966 in tho Council Chambers. The purpose of the mooting is to grant permission to the 3 Leesburg Baptist Church to acquire ten (10) acres of land in tho Town of Leesburg. Yours very truly, Konnoth B. Rollins. Mayor K.BR/cr 219 MINUTES OF CALL MEETING OF LEESBURG TOWN COUNCIL, JUNE 3, 1966 A call meeting of the Leesburg Town Council was held in the Council Cham- bers, Leesburg, Virginia on June 3, 1966 at 10:30 A.M. , notice having been mailed to members of the Council on June 1 , 1966 (copy of said notice attached hereto). The meeting was called to order by Mayor Rollins, with Councilmen C. Maloy ; Fishback, Maurice R. Lowenbach, Jr. , Walter F. Murray and John W. Pumphrey all being present; also Town Manager James W. Ritter, Jr. and Town Attorney George'M. ' Martin. Absent from the meeting were Councilmen C. A. English Cole and Robert'aA7 Orr. In the absence of the Clerk, Mr. Ritter was appointed Clerk of the Counc&l Pro-Tem. The Mayor explained the purpose of the meeting and, on motion of Council- man Lowenbach, seconded by Councilman Pumphrey, the following Ordinance was adopted : WHEREAS, Section 57-12 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, provided that furch trustees shall not take or hold at any one time more than • fougracres of land in a city or town, unless such trustees; by ordi- nance, authorize •a greater quantity to be held, not exceeding twenty (20) acres; and JO WHEREAS, Robert P. Belote , Arthur S. Jenkins and J. Blakley Simpson, Trustees of the Leesburg Baptist Church of Leesburg, Virginia, have acquired a parcel of land located within the said Town of Leesburg, in Virginia, on the Southerly side of Lee Avenue for religious pur- pose6; and WHEREAS, the Town of Leesburg, Virginia, by Ordinance, is willing to authorize such Trustees to take and hold such 10.00003 acres, in ad- dition to the lands already owned by the said church trustees within the said Town; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, that the Church Trustees of the Lees- burg Baptist Church of Leesburg, Virginia, be, and they hereby are, authorized to take and hold in the Town of Leesburg the parcel of 10.00003 acres located on the Southerly side of Lee Avenue, the same to be devoted exclusively, and subsequently devoted to a church build- ing, chapel , offices exclusively used for administrative purposes of the church, a Sunday school building and playgrounds therefor , and parking lots for the convenience of those attending any of the fore- going, and a church manse, parsonage or rectory.
