HomeMy Public PortalAbout1967_08_03SPEC int MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF LEESBURG TOWN COUNCIL, AUGUST 3, 1967. A Special Meeting of the Leesburg Town Council was held in the Council Chambers, 12 W. Loudoun Street, Leesburg, Virginia, on August 3, 1967 at 2 :30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Rollins, with the following. Council- . men being present : C. A. English Cole, C. Maloy Fishback, Maurice R. Lowenbach, Jr. , Walter F. Murray and John W.. Pumphrey; also Town Manager James W. Ritter , Jr. Absent from the meeting was Councilman Robert A. Orr. . Upon motion of Councilman Lowenbach, seconded by Councilman Pumphrey, the following resolution was unanimously adopted : BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, that the action of the Finance Committee be approved on the recent investment of $500,000.00 in Certificate of Deposit with First and Merchant's Bank for a period of 90 days at k)% interest. Mr. Ritter explained that two bids were received, out of five sent out, on the jet sealing of the Airport runway and taxiway and patching of a hole on the runway, and that this work should be authorized as quickly as possible in order that we might notify the Airport and they, in turn, may publish the fact that the runway will be under repair. Upon motion of Councilman Pumphrey, sec- onded by Councilman Murray, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: N BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Leesburg, . that a N contract be awarded to Tri-County Asphalt in the amount of $7,946:00, which is the lowest bid received, for the placing of jet seal at the ( ) Airport and the patching of hole at the juncture of the taxiway and apron. The question of serving the new Westinghouse plant with water and sewer was discussed with Mr. Williams and other representatives of the firm of Johnson and Williams, Consulting Engineers. Mr. Williams was authorized to make a study as to the feasibility of the Town serving the Westinghouse plant with water and sewer, and Mr. Williams said he hoped to have this study completed within two weeks. adjourned at 4:20 P.M.
