Meeting Minutes
December 16, 2019
Date & Time: 12/18/19 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Present: Jan Will, Sarah Jones, Michelle Owens,
Absent: Susan Estroff, Marty Harrell, Sarah Jones
Guests: Fidelia Fowler
Location: Tybee Public Safety Building - Conference Room
Call to order
Meeting was called to order by Michelle Owens at 6:13 P.M. No quorum present.
Welcome
Minutes for Consideration
Historic Preservation Commission Minutes: October and nOvember 2019 minutes not
approved due to lack of quorum.
Old Business
Draft Demolition Ordinance – Updates to language still under review by county attorney. Fidelia
Fowler asked to have a copy of the draft mailed to her.
New Business
2020 Meeting Schedule –Michelle shared meeting dates for 2020. Board may change or cancel
Dec. 21 meeting date due to its proximity to Christmas. They will wait to make the decision
closer to the date.
Board Vacancies - Susan Estroff’s term ends with the December meeting. That will create two
board vacanices that need to be filled. Fidelia Fowler may be interested in joining. Michelle
announced that Jan Will is stepping down as chair of the commission but will stay on as a
member.
Permit Reviews
A permit for Royal Palm motel was submitted for consideration. The project involves
adding a roof top deck and making exterior updates. The changes will make the
property ineligible for historic designation. The foot print will remain the same and the
changes are reversible such that the property could become eligible in the future. The
exterior upgrades will be a different material than the original building. Sarah informed
that board that this is preferable so that the old and new are distinguishable. Those
present had no objections to the proposed changes.
