COMMITTEE MEETING — Began at 4:30 p.m.
• CALL TO ORDER ANDROLL CALL
Committee members Bob Youde, Cynthia Dittmer and Claire Remsberg were
present. Also present was Delta James, City Planner.
• MINUTES APPROVAL
Bob moved and Claire seconded a motion to approve the minutes from December 4,
2013. The motion passed unanimously.
• PUBLIC ART EXAMPLES
Staff shared an image of Jack Mackie's dancing steps inlayed into a sidewalk in
Seattle.
• PUBLIC ART PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES
Urban Renewal District — Fir Street tree grates: Staff reported that staff is working
with Danny's Welding to confirm costs and design specifications. The CaII to Artists
is anticipated to be released in March.
MDHS Advanced Art Class — Railroad Ave retaining wall: Public input on the final
mural design has concluded with more than 50% of respondents preferring the river,
fish and mountains design. The project selection committee has recommended that
design to City Council for approval. City Council will consider the recommended
design at their February 13 meeting. Idaho Power has agreed to provide $300 in
sponsorship for the project.
• PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES
Alpine Playhouse — Staff reported that the City has applied for a $10,000 grant from
the Idaho Commission on the Arts to support a public art project near the Alpine
Playhouse in conjunction with the recently -funding ITD Community Choices for Idaho
sidewalk project. The grant will be matched with the $10,000 City allocation for public
art. Notification of grant award should happen in late May or early June, 2014.
• FUNDING
Staff reported that Idaho Power has agreed to provide $300 for the Railroad Avenue
retaining wall mural project.
• PUBLIC ART EDUCATION / ADVOCACY
Existing artwork information / brochure - Staff has created a brochure and public art
locations map and will distribute them to the Chamber and Gallery 55.
• OTHER
Next meeting date — staff will email out meeting date options.
• ADJOURNMENT
Meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
