1996- 05 -02. Special Called Council
Mayor Pro Tem Mariann Wildi called the meeting to order at
7 :20 P.M. on Thursday, may 2, 1996. Mayor Parker requested this
meeting in order for council to decide on a two day special beer
permit for Mr. John Henderson, dba Coach's Corner. This permit
would be for the Bud Lite Jet Ski Tournament on May llth and
12th.
Councilmember present were Michael "Spec" Hosti, Mallory
Pearce, Jack Youmans, Ed Merves, William Remeta. City Manager
Farmer and City Attorney were also present.
Councilmember Pearce moved to approve the request for the
special two day beer permit. Councilmember Hosti seconded.
Councilmember Youmans asked what are we approving? Mayor Pro Tem
Wildi said beer sales for May llth and 12th. Councilmember
Youmans said like we do for non profit organizations throughout
the year. Councilmember Hosti said that bids were put out for the
beer concession and that Coach's Corner was the only business to
bid the $5,000.00 minimum. Vote by Council was unanimous.
City Attorney Hughes questioned how they were going to sell
beer on Sunday. Mr. Henderson answered that they will be selling
food. Councilmember said that food sales fall under a vendor
license. Councilmember Remeta stated that this is not a non-
profit event. Mayor Pro Tem Wildi said that City Manager Farmer
is working on Special Event policy with a detailed criteria. Mrs.
Dottie Kluttz said that she has two concerns. One is that the
event is profit making and that they should pay the city for
allowing the event to take place. The second concern is the
litter the event will produce and who will control. City Manager
Farmer said that he has talked with Mr. Meads and Mr. Simmons and
that the Savannah Sports Council will pay for the parking area,
the extra police protection and for Public Works personnel.
Councilmember Youmans moved to adjourn. Councilmember Hosti
seconded. All Councilmember concurred.
