HomeMy Public PortalAbout8/26/1993 special" GREENCASTLE COMMON COUNCIL Special Session August 26, 1993 The Greencastle Common Council met in special session on Thursday, August 26, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. at Tzouanakis Intermediate School. On call of the roll the following members were shown to be present: Councilor Tom Roach, Councilor Jerry Culbert, Councilor Sue Murray, Councilor Charles Miles. Also present were City Engineer Joe Woody and City Attorney John Zeiner. Public Petitions and Comments: Dr. Jack Cook was present to comment on the program to install curbside mailboxes in the city. He noted that he is disturbed that it is occurring and asked that Council act on behalf of the citizens. Councilor Murray asked that a resolution be prepared for the next session of Council. Councilor Rokicki entered the meeting at this time. Department Reports: Monthly statistical reports were continued from last session with the following additional comments: Mr. Woody informed Council of the culvert repair efforts, noting that to ensure the safety of the road and the emergency repairs further gunnite work needs to occur. He indicated that the Board of Works will be conducting and emergency meeting to take proposals for the additional work. Councilor Rokicki asked if the County had been contacted concerning financial assistance for the project. Mr. Woody responded that they had been contacted, however, the culvert, although it does meet the statutory criteria, does not meet the County criteria for use of the County Cumulative Bridge Fund. Recommendations and Requests from Officers and Departments: Ordinance 1993 -10, An Ordinance for Appropriations and Tax Rates, was presented to Council and read by title only by Mayor Harmless. Councilor Murray moved to approve Ordinance 1993 -10 on first reading. This motion was seconded by Councilor Miles and was carried by an aye unanimous vote. Mayor Harmless declared Ordinance 1993 -10 to have been passed and adopted this date. Resolution 1993 -18, A Resolution Declaring the City of Greencastle a Fair Housing Community, was presented to Council and read in its entirety by Mr. Zeiner. Discussion ensued concerning the fact that Resolution 1993 -18 was not available for review by Council prior to the meeting. Councilor Roach moved to table Resolution 1993 -18. This motion was seconded by Councilor Rokicki and was carried by the following vote: AYES: Councilor Murray NAYS: Councilor Miles Councilor Roach Councilor Rokicki Councilor Calbert With no further business, Councilor Roach moved for a ournmcnt.
