PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, 1995 marks the 50th Anniversary of Victory in Europe
when the European Axis powers surrendered
"unconditionally" to the Allied Forces: and
WHEREAS, May 6th has been selected by the many committees as
the primary day during the period of May 1 to May 8th
on which we in the Bi-State area would celebrate
Victory in Europe at a program at the National
Veteran' s Cemetery on Rock Island Arsenal Island.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that all citizens of Riverdale
are urged to honor all those brave Americans who sacrificed their
lives, their youth, and their health in the Armed Forces of America
to achieve this historic victory for freedom loving people
throughout the world and;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that we also honor those who
served on the home front in defense plants, arsenals, Red Cross
Chapters, Salvation Army Units and other support activities which
backed up our fighting forces on the fight' ng ronts.
