YOWIt eliiie4 " C94;00,444 Jtwa WHEREAS, the substance abuse related deaths (476) in 1988 were the highest in the past nine years; and, WHEREAS, Scott County ranks 14th out of 99 Iowa counties in alcohol related problems; and, WHEREAS, IOWA RED RIBBON COMPAIGN will be observed in every community in Iowa during Red Ribbon Week, October 20-28 , 1990; and, WHEREAS, Governor Terry Branstad and Mrs . Chris Branstad, and their children Eric, Allison, and Marcus Branstad will be Honorary Chairs of this statewide focus on a DRUG FREE IOWA; and, WHEREAS. The Iowa Department of Public Health, Division of Substance Abuse and Health Promotion and the Iowa Network of Drag Information are coordinating this visible unified prevention education effort launched to reduce the demand for alcohol and other drugs; and, WHEREAS, government , business , law enforcement , schools , religious institutions , social services , medical community, service organizations , media, senior citizens , parents , and youth will work together to mobilize this community; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Riverdale does hereby support October 20-28 , 1990 , as RED RIBBON WEEK, and encourages it ' s citizens to wear and display red ribbons and to participate in drug awareness and drug educaiton activities to demonstrate that we are strongly committed to healthy lifestyles . . . free of the use of illegal drugs and free of abusing ourselves or others with legal drugs . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of RIVERDALE encourages all its citizens to pledge: "MY CHOICE. . . DRUG FREE !
