THE CITY OF BEL AIRE, KANSAS

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR MAINTENANCE AND
INSPECTION OF DEVICES FOR THE CONTROL OF
BACKFLOW INTO THE CITY WATER SUPPLY AND
AMENDING SECTION 4 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 29.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF BEL AIRE,
KANSAS:
Section 1.
Amending Section 4 of Ordinance Number 29
Section 4 of Ordinance Number 29 of the City of Bel Aire,
Kansas is amended to read as follows:
"Section 4. Maintenance and Inspection Requirements.
1. Maintenance Reauirements. It shall be the responsibility
of building and premise owners to maintain all backflow preventers
and vacuum breakers within the building or on the premises in good
working order and to make no piping or other arrangements for the
purpose of bypassing or removing backflow devices.
2. Insgection Requirements. It shall be the responsibility
of building and premise owners to have each backflow preventer
device tested and inspected immediately after initial installation
to assure the device has been installed properly and that debris
resulting from the installation has not interfered with the
functioning of the device. Thereafter, it shall be the
responsibility of building and premise owners to have each backflow
preventer device tested and inspected annually, any overhaul or
repairs made, and a backflow device test report filed with the City
of Bel Aire, Kansas before the first day of April of each year.
The inspection and testing shall be by a tester/repair technician
certified by the Wichita-Sedgwick County Health Department and
testing procedures shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's
instructions when approved by the Director. Overhaul intervals
should not exceed five (5) years. There shall be a five dollar
($5.00) filing fee to file a backflow device test report with the
City of Bel Aire, Kansas."
All other sections of Ordinance Number 29, not previously
amended, shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 2.
Effective Date
This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and
after its publication in the official city newspaper.
