HomeMy Public PortalAboutBaker.pdfOctober 21, 2020 Tybee Island City Council c/o Mayor Shirley Sessions City of Tybee Island PQ Box 2749 Tybee Island, GA 31328 Dear TI City Council Members - At your next full council meeting, please seriously consider the following points as you determine your next course of action related to the negative consequences for public safety and island cleanliness per the abuse of alcohol and the current permitted use of "open containers": 1. My wife and I have and will always highly support our local TIPD and prioritize their lives and safety over any criminal or lawbreaker. (We trust the 11 City Council will agree, too.) 2. We trust you will channel your thoughts and actions to preferably align with wild( is m the best safety interests of the majority — as well as island leadership (inc. TI Police Chief), full-time residents, and law-abiding visitors over a) any selfish profiteering motive by merchants or b) drunks who may feel they are "entitled" to engage in multiple violations of misconduct on Tybee Island simply by ...crossing the Lazaretto Bridge. 3. Why should any law-abiding citizen perceive they are less safe on Tybee Island than, say, Hilton Head Island or...any other populated island governed by their local leadership with established laws/ordinances? We are not asking you to waive a magic wand and make everything perfect. We are, however, expecting and supporting you to take a courageous, common-sense approach to improve this ongoing problem for everyone's safety benefit. Is 4tJere any doubt the permissive use of "open containers" contribute to an island -wide problem? Thank you for all you should do and can do as our elected leadership representatives in this regard. Sincerely, Zeit,/te. Claudia and David Baker /O;011anc-
