I've heard rumors that City Council will be discussing and deciding on the proposed alcohol ban tonight. I would appreciate you getting this message to them for this evening's meeting: Regarding the ban, I'd like to encourage the counci I not to pass it. Being able to walk with a drink in the "downtown" part of Tybee, or sit on the beach with drinks, is one of the things that makes this adorably quirky little island special. I pick up a mimosa from Fannie's almost every Sunday and walk to the Pier with my husband, and it's a tradition that would be sad to end. I'm sure we're not the only ones who enjoy this simple luxury. Beyond my personal penchant for open containers, there is a bigger and more important issue at hand. Tybee is such a fantastic place - it's a tiny haven of relaxed, slightly crazy yet still innocent fun - smack dab in the middle of the Bible belt, which is awesome. Open containers being allowed on the South end of the island is one of the things that makes this island the way it is. Don't change it. I understand that occasionally rowdy people drink too much and require attention. That's why we have the police. Don't make the majority of us suffer from a few rowdy punks, or from the few people who would like to change Tybee from the quirky, sometimes messy but very special place it is, to a white -washed, strict, and boringly perfect subdivision by the sea. Respectfully, Talya (Shoup) Kight 1
