AN ORDINANCE CREATING SECTION 9 -23 OF THE GREENCASTLE CITY CODE
REGARDING WATER LINE OWNERSHIP / L

WHEREAS, the Greencastle Department of Waterworks provides water to customers through.. v
City -owned main waterlines;
WHEREAS, clarification is needed regarding exactly where ownership ofeach line transfers
from the City to the customer;
NOW THEREFORE be it ordained by the Common Council of the Cityof Greencastle that it
hereby creates Section 9 -22 of the Greencastle City Code as follows:
Sec. 9 -22. Ownership of Water Line.
Ownership of each customer's water line begins on the customer's side of the first valve
connecting the City's main water line to the customer service lines and/or private fire lines
connecting to the customer's property. The first valve is the property of the City. The customer is
responsible for the repair and maintenance of the customer's water line. The City owns and shall be
responsible for the maintenance of the water meter connected to the customer's water line.
This Ordinance shall have full force and effect upon passage of the Greencastle Common
Council and its approval by the Mayor.
