TERMINATING THE AWARD OF BID AND AUTHORIZING A
CONTRACT WITH THE NEXT LOWEST BIDDER / DEMOLITION
OF UNSAFE STRUCTURES
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret previously awarded a contract for the
demolition of real property commonly known as 33-35 Roosevelt Avenue and
77 Roosevelt Avenue in Carteret; and
WHEREAS, the Borough previously awarded a contract to the lowest
responsible bidder for said demolition which was Gordon Construction in the
amount of $10,000.00 and $13,000.00 respectively; and
WHEREAS, Gordon Construction failed to perform pursuant to the award of
bid; and
WHEREAS, the Borough has determined that it is in the public interest to
proceed with the demolition of the above described unsafe structures; and
WHEREAS, the next lowest bidder for said project is H.D'ORSI Construction
in the amount of $14,500.00 and $34,000.00 respectively as evidenced by a
copy of the bid sheet attached hereto and made a part of hereof.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret as follows:
1. That the contract awarded to Gordon Construction in the amount
of $10,000.00 for the demolition of an unsafe structure located at 33-35
Roosevelt Avenue and $13,000.00 for 77 Roosevelt Avenue is hereby
terminated.
2. That the appropriate Borough officials hereby authorized to enter
into a contract with H.D'ORSI Construction for the demolition of 33-35
Roosevelt Avenue in the amount of $14, 500.00.
3. That should the Middlesex County Construction Board of
Appeals deny the appeal of the demolition order issued to the owner of 77
Roosevelt Avenue, then and only then will the appropriate Borough officials
enter into a contract with H.D'ORSI Construction for the demolition of said
structure in the amount of $34,000.00.
4. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Borough's
Purchasing department and the Construction Code office.
