HomeMy Public PortalAbout080-1984 - ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE LONGEVITY PAY OF THE RICHMOND POICE OFFICERS AND SPECIFYING THE RATE OF SUCH LONGEVITY PAYORDINANCE NO. 80-1984 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE LONGEVITY PAY OF RICHMOND POLICE OFFICERS AND SPECIFYING THE RATE OF SUCH LONGEVITY PAY WHERAS, the Common Council of the City of Richmond recognizes that in order to attract and keep highly qualified police officers in the City of Richmond Police Department certain incentives must be offered; and WHEREAS, one of the most effective incentives has been the longevity pay given for continuous service with the Richmond Police Department; and WHEREAS, the City of Richmond, through its negotiating team reached an agreement with the bargaining unit of the officers of the Richmond Police Department, which provided for a set rate of longevity pay for continuous service to the Department, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Richmond: SECTION 1. As an incentive for continued service with the Richmond Police Department, each sworn police officer shall receive, in addition to his or her regular pay beginning on the officer's anniversary date at the start of the officer's second year with the Richmond Police Department, an amount equal to 0.5% (1 of 1%) of the base salary of a First Class Patrolman, SECTION 2. On the anniversary date at the beginning of each successive year of the officer's employment, the longevity pay shall increase at 0.5% of the base salary of a First Class Patrolman, and such -successive increases in longevity pay shall be cumulative in nature with the previous increases. "ECTION 3. Funding for longevity pay shall be provided by the fees generated and deposited in the non -reverting fund created by Ordinance No.?/ -1984. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be effective January 1, 1985, and shall continue until revoked, amended, or modified by the Common Council pursuant to the negotiation of a new agreement between the City and any bargaining unit for officer$ of the Richmond Police Department. Any outstanding unpaid balance due on the current year longevity will be budgeted in the general fund in order to provide a start up balance. Except for calendar year 1985 in order to provide a start up balance in which an amount equal to longevity calculated at the rate in effect in 1984 will be paid from the General Fund - Police Department of the Civil City budget with the remainder of the longevity pay to be expended from the non -reverting fund. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be effective January 1, 1985, and shall continue until revoked, amended, or modified by the Common Council pursuant to the negotiation of a new agreement between the City and any bargaining unit for officers of the Richmond Police Department.
