Corbin St. Present: Chair Andrea Lewis, Casey Collins, Frances Harris, Tim Logue, Phyllis Simon, Bryan Stuart and Greg Yavelak (ex officio) Absent: Liz Waters Staff: Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood Guests: None 1. Call to order, roll call, and confirmation of quorum Chair Andrea Lewis called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood called the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum. 2. Agenda changes and approval No changes. The agenda stood as presented. 3. Minutes review and approval Minutes from regular meeting on Nov. 20, 2019. Motion: Member Frances Harris moved to approve the minutes as presented. Member Tim Logue seconded. Vote: Unanimous Changes: None 4. Update on Murray Street Park plantings Trueblood reviewed the list of plantings generated at a previous meeting with the board. There was brief discussion about the plans for planting and mulch. 5. Update on reforestation project Trueblood said it would cost about $350,000 to complete the reforestation project. In her budget request, she proposes spending $75,000 a year for five years to complete the project. She reviewed that related budget requests included purchasing a large portable water container and installing a water spigot at each park’s garden area to aid watering public gardens and saplings. 6. Discussion of 2020 Bee City initiatives Trueblood reviewed past initiatives. This year’s initiatives will include: • Outreach for the Managed Natural Landscapes Ordinance. • Additional pollinator plantings. • The installation of natural play equipment that looks like a beehive at Hillsborough Heights Park, which will be built by a Girl Scout as a Gold Award project. Tree Board Minutes | 2 of 2 • A Pollination Appreciation Week the first week in June with Hillsborough Garden Club, if the Xerxes Society approves using a week outside the national week. The board discussed producing a video about the benefits of changing mowed lawns into managed natural areas and offering a tour of a managed natural area. 7. Updates A. Hillsborough Garden Club Lewis said the plant sale will focus on pollinator-friendly and native plants. B. Bee City Subcommittee Lewis shared that the subcommittee had met with the new editor of The News of Orange County and had plans for future newspaper articles to encourage pollinator-friendly gardening. C. Staff and board updates Trueblood reviewed that next month she would like for the board to outline the content for a video on managed natural areas and to identify places where a tour could be given for National Pollinator Week. 8. Adjournment Lewis adjourned the meeting at 9:52 a.m.
