Special City Council Meeting
July 16, 2008
Tiffin Fire Station Meeting Room
Mayor Royce Phillips called meeting to order at 6:35pm.
Roll call of Council members: Chris Ball, Jim Bartels, Mike Gericke. Absent Mark Petersen and John
Wright.
Motion Bartels seconded Gericke to approve Agenda as presented.
Also present Engineer Doug Frederick, City Clerk Ruth Demuth, and Ann Allen.
Discussion held on future planning of trails east of Jasper Avenue. Trails planned and design plan
submitted to IDOT for trail east of ball fields to Jasper Avenue in construction season 2009. Motion
Gericke seconded Ball to approve eight foot trail from ball fields to bridge and ten foot trail from bridge to
Jasper Avenue. Council members considered the best route from Jasper Ave to 1-380. Three options
considered to join trail with Coralville trail at Hwy 6 underpass, railroad crossing underpass, or at Clear
Creek underpass. Council members favor pursuing Clear Creek underpass through timber. Motion Ball
seconded Bartels to approve Engineer Frederick to pursue options to obtain land and easements east of
Jasper Ave to 1-380.
Planning and discussion was held on future extension of trails. Council members expressed need to
extend future trails west and south of existing trails and designating trail heads for accessibility to
parking. Ball volunteered to assist Engineer Frederick in applying for additional trail funds for fall
deadline.
Discussion and planning of park sites deferred until future planning sessions.
Motion Bartels seconded by Ball for adjournment at 8:00pm.
