Holiday Donation Drives Organized by Town of
Leesburg Employees Exceed Expectations
Campaigns Generate Record Donations for
Toys for Tots and Interfaith Relief
Leesburg, VA (February 3, 2010) – The final tallies on two holiday donation drives
organized in 2009 by the members of the Town of Leesburg’s Employee Advisory
Committee showed record levels of giving.
The annual Toys for Tots Campaign collected over 800 toys for the 2009 Marine Corps
Reserve Toys for Tots campaign in Loudoun County. Drop-off locations in four Town
facilities accepted donations from Town employees and residents. The 2009 donations
tripled the donations received in 2008.
The “Share a Can” food drive, benefiting Loudoun Interfaith Relief, collected over one
ton of canned goods and non-perishable food, from late June through the end of
December 2009. Collection bins were placed in the breakrooms of all Town facilities
and employees were encouraged to “share a can” on paydays. October and December
were the largest donation months, with over 300 pounds collected in each of those
months.
“The success of these two holiday donation drives really demonstrates the commitment
of the Town’s employees to making Leesburg the best community it can be. I am
privileged to work with such a dedicated and generous group of people,” John Wells,
Leesburg’s Town Manager, commented upon hearing the final results of the campaigns.
