Street crews have been working continuous 12-hour shifts since Friday morning, clearing streets and Town facilities. As of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010, approximately 90% of Town streets had been plowed at least once. Town officials estimate that all Town streets will be passable, with a minimum of one lane open, by Monday morning, February 8, 2010. Snow removal operations will continue until all Town streets have at least two lanes open to traffic. Residents are requested to assist with snow removal in the following ways: • When clearing driveway aprons, shovel snow to the right of the driveway. This will reduce the amount of snow pushed back onto the driveway by snow plows. • Clear snow from around fire hydrants. • Ensure that the house number is visible from the street. In the event of an emergency, emergency crews will need to be to see the address number. Residents and business owners are reminded that they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their properties. The Town of Leesburg will clear the sidewalks in front of Town-owned facilities. If snow or ice cannot be removed, it should be covered with sand, kitty litter or similar material to make it safe for pedestrians. A complete list of Town facility closures and cancellations is posted on the Town of Leesburg website at www.leesburgva.gov and will be updated as necessary. As of 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010, the following closures and cancellations have been announced: TOL PR 2010-02-07 Snow Removal Operations Continue Page 2 • Ida Lee Park Recreation Center will be open regular hours on Monday, February 8, 2010.
