Council Members Present: Thomas Dunn, II, Katie Sheldon Hammier, Council Member Martinez, Ken Reid and Kevin Wright Council Members Absent: Council Member Butler and Mayor Umstattd absent Staff Present: Town Manager John Wells, Town Attorney Jeanette Irby, Zoning Administrator Chris Murphy and Management Specialist/Deputy Clerk of Council Debi Parry AGENDA ITEMS 1. Authorization of Issuance of a Sian Permit Dursuant to Section 15.9.7 Unusual Site Constraints of the Town of Leesbura Zonina Ordinance Chris Murphy stated the unusual site constraints in this case are that there is no visible signage from Route 15 because of the Hampton Inn located in front of the Homewood Suites. He stated staff recommends that Council issue a sign permit pursuant to Zoning Ordinance Section 15.9.7, Unusual Site Constraints to allow the applicant to place the sign higher on their building to allow visibility. Further, he stated if Council does not agree to issue the sign permit it will go before the Board of Zoning Appeals. Council Member Martinez verified staff recommends approval. He asked what the sign will look like. Mr. Murphy stated the final design has not been completed yet. He stated the sign will have to comply with all other applicable sign regulations. Vice Mayor Hammier asked if this may open the Town to numerous requests from other businesses. Mr. Murphy stated the key in this situation is the position of the building and therefore the unusual site constraints apply. Council Member Dunn asked how the signs for Abbey Carpet were approved. Mr. Murphy stated that was part of a comprehensive sign package which allows more flexibility. Council Member Reid asked if the Homewood Suites sign could be combined with the Hampton Inn sign.
