HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2010-02-09 flat roof warning Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Contact: Betsy Fields Research & Communications Manager 703-771-2734 Leesburg Residents Cautioned About Structural Integrity of Buildings Leesburg, VA (February 9, 2010, 12:30 p.m.) – With an additional 12 to 18 inches of snow forecast for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, Town of Leesburg officials are cautioning residents to be aware of the potential danger to buildings with flat roofs. Melting and re-freezing of existing snow cover, coupled with the additional snow accumulations, could result in structural failure of buildings. If possible, residents should clear drainpipes and downspouts to allow snow melt to drain off the roof. Residents should NOT attempt to remove snow by getting on the roof, as this will place additional stress on the structure. If residents observe any wall cracks, bowing of walls or roof, or hear groaning from the roof, they should evacuate the building immediately and call 911. # # #
