HomeMy Public PortalAbout09-02 Dual Designation of Sinbad Avenue 1 st Reading: 01 /1 4/7009 2nd Reading: 01 /2 8/2 0 0 9 Public Hearing: 01 /2 8/2 0 0 9 Adopted: 01 /2 8/2 0 0 9 Effective Date: 01 /2 8/2 0 0 9 ORDINANCE NO. 0 9-0 2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA,FLORIDA APPROVING THE DUAL DESIGNATION OF SINBAD AVENUE FROM NW 135TH STREET TO OPA-LOCKA BOULEVARD AS "OFFICER EPHRIAM BROWN AVENUE"; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Opa-locka Police Officer Ephriam Brown was killed in the line of duty on June 3rd, 1986 in the City of Opa-locka("City"); and WHEREAS,in recognition of Officer Ephriam Brown's tragic death while serving the City, Commissioner Timothy Holmes proposed that Sinbad Avenue from NW 135`h Street to Opa-locka Boulevard in the City be dual-designated as "Officer Ephriam Brown Avenue"; and WHEREAS, after hearing public comments on the matter, the City Commission has considered the recommendation to dual-designate Sinbad Avenue from NW 135th Street to Opa- locka Boulevard as "Officer Ephriam Brown Avenue". THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA HEREBY ORDAINS: Section 1. The recitals to the preamble herein are incorporated by reference. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Opa-locka hereby approves the dual- designation of Sinbad Avenue from NW 135th Street to Opa-locka Boulevard as "Officer Ephriam Brown Avenue"and directs the City Manager to take all necessary actions to carry-out the intent and objectives of this Ordinance. Section 3. All ordinances or Code provisions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Ordinance No. 0 9-0 2 Section 4. If any section,subsection,sentence,clause,phrase or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction,such portion shall be deemed a separate,distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this Ordinance. Section 5. This Ordinance shall,upon adoption,become effective as specified by the City of Opa-locka Code of Ordinances and the City of Opa-locka Charter. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 28 day of JAN. 2009.
