Leesburg’s First Friday for February Cancelled
Downtown Merchants Digging Out & Reopening
Leesburg, VA (February 11, 2010) – Leesburg’s First Friday, originally scheduled for
February 5th and postponed due to snow to February 12th, has been cancelled.
According to the Loudoun Arts Council, the event sponsor, the decision to cancel was
based primarily on concerns for pedestrian safety due to icy street and sidewalk
conditions after dark.
Despite the cancellation of First Friday, many downtown merchants have already
reopened and look forward to welcoming their customers back, just in time for
Valentine’s Day. Customers should check the Leesburg Downtown Business
Association’s Facebook page (Downtown Leesburg) and individual business websites
for the most current information about shop and restaurant hours. Free parking is
available for the Valentine’s Day weekend in the Town Hall Parking Garage and the
Loudoun County Parking Garage, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, through Sunday.
The Town of Leesburg Streets Division will be conducting snow removal operations in
the downtown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, clearing the way for the return to
normal operations. However, Town officials encourage pedestrians to continue to be
mindful of rapidly melting snow and ice from rooftops and gutters.
