MINUTES- February 6, 2001
I. ROLL CALL AND CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Committee members, Scotty Davenport, Bill
Murphy, Neil Thompson, Mike Lenzi, Terry Lewis, Todd Sholty and Dave Faurot. Director
declared a quorum.
II. NEW BUSINESS
Chairman and Co -Chairman were elected.
Faurot made a motion to elect Todd Sholty as Co -Chairman. Davenport seconded and the
motion carried unanimously.
Sholty made the motion to nominate Dave Faurot as Chairman. Davenport seconded and
the motion carried unanimously.
The committee then discussed fee structures. Discussion on the non-resident fees ranged from
50% to 100%. Davenport felt that 100 % was too much considering the economics of the area.
Committee felt that 50% was more in line with what the citizens could pay and took in to
account the recreation levy tax paid by citizens.
Faurot made the motion to accept the non-resident fee to be 5043/0 more than the resident
fee. Lenzi seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The committee felt that the recreation card should be for the entire family not per child. This
would help to increase the number of participants in programs. They also agreed it should be
increased to be more in -line with the average cost of a house in McCall.
Faurot made the motion to increase the recreation card from $35.00 to $40.00 and change
it from per child to per household. Davenport seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.
The committee discussed recreation fees for current programs. They agreed the fees should be
raised considering they have not been raised in 5 years and the cost of equipment has gone up.
See fee structure attached. The topic of new classes and what to charge was discussed at length.
They felt it would be easier to use a formula from Director Peckham to set fees for new
programs.
Faurot made a motion to accept the fee structure for current programs as printed and to
use the formula to establish fees for new programs. Davenport seconded and the motion
carried unanimously.
Discussion turned to instructors and volunteers and paying for programs they have kids in. They
felt that due to the amount of time spent in teaching and volunteering it would be advantageous
to give them some type of discount. They felt it would bolster the program, give credibility to the
program and encourage the instructors and volunteers to stay. It would also improve the image of
the department and create a feeling of goodwill towards the volunteers and instructors.
Davenport made a motion to give a 50% discount to those volunteers and instructors whose
kids participate in the program they are teaching or volunteering in. Murphy seconded and
the motion carried unanimously.
