Winter Storm Recovery Efforts Continue
Safety Concerns Remain a Top Priority
Leesburg, VA (February 16, 2010) – Town of Leesburg staff continue with recovery
efforts from the back-to-back snowstorms of February 5-6 and February 9-10, 2010.
Snow removal operations have cleared sidewalks and on-street parking spaces in much
of the downtown. Remaining downtown streets with parking meters will be cleared on
February 17 and 18. Street crews are also working to ensure that snow banks do not
restrict driver visibility at intersections throughout Town.
Town officials continue to request resident assistance with clearing snow from around
fire hydrants to allow access in the event of an emergency. In addition, officials
encourage residents to continue to take winter safety measures, including:
Clear sidewalks of snow and ice
Clear downspouts and roof drains to allow snow & ice melt to drain off
Be aware of the potential for ice and snow falling from rooftops, particularly in
the downtown area
Ensure that your house address number is visible from the street
Continue to park vehicles off the street
The Town has canceled brush removal operations for the week of February 15, 2010.
Depending on progress with snow removal operations, brush removal may be canceled
for the following week as well. As residents begin to clean up landscaping damage from
the snowstorm, they are requested to not place brush at the curb, in the street or on top
of snow piles until brush removal operations have resumed.
