III. NEW BUSINESS
Skate Park
Discussed how we are working with the Skate Park by contributing a grant application
for the Land and Water Grant. I also emphasized that the City Manager, myself and the
president of the skate park association will be having a meeting to figure out what is the
Recreation Directors and the City of McCall's role in the future of the Skate Park.
Sibling discount -after school program and Heartland Gymnastics
The recreation Committee discussed and approved the 50% sibling discount for the After
School Program and The $5 discount for Heartland Gymnastics' sibling discount. We
also discussed how the after school program was running and what we attend to do in the
future.
Winter Special Olympics
Discussed that I have been contacted by the Winter Special Olympics that will be held at
Brundage Mountain in March. The Winter Special Olympics wants to know how we are
able to help them. The Committee believes that we can help them (WSA) with
Volunteers, housing kids, other contacts and a variety of skill levels of volunteers.
Mountain Biking — BSU Survey
Discussed that I have been contacted by the Economic Department from Boise State
University. They are gathering information to develop a survey to determine the
economic impact of Mountain Biking in the McCall area. This is only in the beginning
process and we are waiting for further information from BSU.
Spring Mountain Ranch — Cross Country Skiing
We have determined that the Cross Country Trails will be ran and maintained by the
parks department. The snowmobile will be shifted from the recreation department to the
parks department. The committee believes that maintenance equipment should be owned
and maintained by the parks department unless the use by recreation department is more
significant than the parks department.
Winter Programs
We discussed new ideas for winter program in McCall. Some of the new ideas included:
Snow shoe softball, working closer with the Little Ski Hill, Youth Wrestling, Ice Fishing
Derby's, working with the Art's and Humanities Group.
Bi11 Shiply and Softball this summer - ASA
I have been contacted by Mr. Shiply for adult softball this summer. Working with him
will give us the opportunity to play against other cities. I am hoping to have all of our
teams ASA certified, thus having better liability coverage and better organization when it
comes to playing in tournaments and local games.
7th Grade Presentation to Improvement Committee and Council
The 7th Grade class are working in groups of two and coming up with designs for
Riverfront Park. The top six of these groups will be presenting on Thursday,
December 12, 2002 starting at noon at the Super Eight. The McCall Improvement
Committee, along with the Parks and Recreation Committees will then pick the best
project who will then present to city council that night at 7 p.m. at the McCall Middle
School.
Airport Fly -in
Informed the recreation committee that I have been working closely with the Airport
Fly -in set for August. I have been tasked to gather all community activities for pilots and
families who will be here for the fly -in. This will help not only help with giving pilots
and their families' activities to participate in, but help the local businesses.
Fish pen docks
The fish pen docks will be moved to Brown Park
Uofl Valley County Extension — Monica Riegel
Discussed that I have been contacted by the Uofl Extension on helping them with ideas
and content for a Middle School level After School Program. The After School Program
Coordinator and I will be meeting with Mrs. Riegel December 18th at 11 a.m., Legion
