HomeMy Public PortalAboutBaccus, DwaineBaccus shaking it up at Meridian MCCALL — Dwaine Baccus, who's making his Team 61 Bomber Stock Car the adopted race car of the City of McCall, had another strong showing Saturday night at Meridian Speedway. He knocked more than a half -second off of his qualifying time, and finished third by a half -car length in the his 8-lap heat race. In the 15-lap main, he started fourth and was in the lead by lap 5. He then got bumped from behind and spun out, and had to restart from the back of the pack. By lap 11 he was back in third and closing, but some lost traction in the final turn left him in that spot at the check- ered flag, 100 feet behind the winner. Baccus will be back at Meridian this Saturday night to take part in an all -Stock Car program. 7hP57a--, T yvs 7/- //0 Team 61 car hits wall during race McCall's Team 61 race team had a tough weekend at Meridian Speed- way Saturday. Driver Dwaine Baccus shot for a narrowing gap between cars in the main event Saturday night and opted to careen into a wall rather than hitting his fellow racers. The move put Baccus out of the race and disabled the car for racing on Sunday. Saturday was the first time Baccus raced at Meridian this season, and a gearing problem in the rear end of his car slowed his time on the shorter track in the qualifying laps, he said. Baccus started the main event in ninth place, worked his way up to fourth, then fell a few places when he got caught in traffic. Baccus tried to pass other cars during lap 27 of a 30- lap race when he collided with the wall. -7;TP rS/-at-#Pws 0 f y-P Car models win awards Dwaine Baccus of McCall won four first -place trophies for auto- motive models displayed at the 25th annual Boise Roadster Show held last weekend in Boise.
