HomeMy Public PortalAbout1949-07-22 MeetingThe Council of Bel Harbour Village met at the.Administration - Building at SIO0 otolook P.M., July 22, 1949 to act as a Board of Equalisation for the village tax roll covering the period of January 1, 1949, to December 31, 1949. There were present the folloriingf Messrs. Bonneau, Simons, :and Southerland, • Abeent: Messrs. Graham, Jr. and Whittaker. Also present were Mr. W. H. Webb, Town.Manager, and Maryliette►ras, . Town Clark. V It was reported by the Town Clerk that a notice had been posted from July 15, 1949 to July, 228 1949, a period of seven dsya, at ,the. town hall informing property owners that the tentative tax asess:mint roll could be seen in the village offices; and that no protests or complaints bed been received. As no tetpayer"a were present tellrctest, .. the tentative tax assessments, the council as a Board of Equalisation, on motion, duly made, seconded and carried, accepted and edepted tote . ' tentative assessment roll as presented by the tex assessor; fixing the taxable value of real property in the Village at $5,040,9 C0 and personal property in the ameget, of 1253020040 as of January -lv 1949• The meeting as a Board of Bgallisation was tben Odjourned, The council thereafter reconvened and proceeded fOther with the business meeting. The council then gave formal approval of Mr. Webbts recommendation of Harold I. Hale for Police and Fire Chief and Mr. Haleea'appoint.. sent as Chief of Police and Chef of the Fire Department of the Village was confirmed. Upon potion duly made, seconded and carried, the council authoriaed the transfer of t1,000.00 for a.new.19oliee,ear.end,$50,.00 f'or a siren for the Fire Station "from Surpina to the, Police Departnen0quipaent,.. Frind (4903-D2) Mr. Southerland reported that the Village hadsent a spray of flowers in the name of the Village Council for the funeral service of Chief Herold T. Dickey, and that they had.reeeived.a,sympethy acknowledgement card from hie family. Mr. Simons suggeeted to the council that there should -be some type of memorial in Chief Diekeyes memory and it was decided that this should be left for discussion at a later date. However, Mr. Southerland was requested to prepare a resolution expressing the townts appreoiation for his services and sympathy for his family, a copy to, be sent to his mother and wife. Discussion followed on the advisabillity ,of having a *Ao Parking Ordinance" for Collins Avenue, end,it ryas decided ..to .include such a provision in an amendment to the Police Ordinanee:regulating the speed of automobiles west of Collins Avenue in the village.
