Leesburg Town Council Allows Sandwich Board Signs
in All Commercial Areas
Use of A‐Frame Signs Extended Outside of Historic Downtown
Leesburg, VA (February 25, 2010) – Following a public hearing on January 26, 2010, the
Leesburg Town Council approved amendments to Article 15 of the Zoning Ordinance to allow A‐
frame, or sandwich board, signs in all commercial areas of the Town. Previously, only
businesses located in the Old & Historic District were allowed to place sandwich board signs on
sidewalks or walkways in front of their businesses.
Under the new regulations, a business must be issued a sign permit prior to displaying an A‐
frame sign. Signs are limited in size to 34 inches high by 24 inches wide. Only one A‐frame sign
is allowed per business and it must be placed within five feet of the business’ door. All
businesses in Town are entitled to two signs. If a business chooses to display an A‐frame sign, it
will count as one of the two signs allowed.
Town staff is available to help businesses with the sign permit application process for A‐frame
signs. For assistance, please call the Zoning Division at 703‐771‐2765. Additional information
about these amendments to the Zoning Ordinance is available on the Town website at
www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=973.
