HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-03-2008THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF RICHMOND, INDIANA, APRIL 3, 2008 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met at 5:00 P.M., Thursday, April 3, 2008, in the Community Room at the Municipal Building, 50 North 5th Street, Richmond, Indiana. In attendance were Board Members Vicki Robinson, Dian Lawson and Mary Jo Flood. Also attending were City Attorney Walt Chidester, Captain Terry Hopkins and Chad Rinehart The following business was conducted: CALL TO ORDER Robinson called the meeting to order and noted for the minutes that all board members and legal counsel were present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Robinson made a request to the board to approve the minutes for the March 27, 2008 meeting. Lawson made a motion to approve with a second by Flood. The motion was unanimously passed. CLAIMS FOR PAYMENT Robinson made a request to the board to approve the claims for payment in the amount of $82,194.40. Some of the larger items were a payment of $33,350.11 to Wayne County Treasurer for the City's portion of the 911 Salaries and benefits and a payment of $22,111.59 to Rose City Shell for unleaded fuel at the pump. Flood made a motion to approve with a second by Lawson. The motion was unanimously passed. RESIDENTIAL HANDICAPPED PARKING SIGN DENIALS A. Robinson brought to the board a request that was presented by City Attorney Walt Chidester for the denial of a Handicap Parking Space for Mary McComis at 431 South 24th Street. He explained that Ordinance clearly states that if there is off street parking there is to be no Handicap Parking Space. Lawson made a motion to approve with a second by Flood. The motion was unanimously passed. B. Robinson brought to the board a request that was presented by Captain Terry Hopkins for the denial of a Handicap Parking Space for Brenda Bowers at 804 South 6th Street. He explained that there is off street parking at this location therefore they don't qualify for a Handicap Parking Space. Flood made a motion to approve with a second by Lawson. The motion was unanimously passed. Board of Works Minutes April 3, 2008 Page 2 of 3 NEW RESIDENTIAL HANDICAPPED PARKING SIGN A. Robinson brought to the board a request that was presented by Captain Terry Hopkins to approve a new Residential Handicap Parking Space for Paul E. Blunt at 616 South 12t11 Street. Lawson made a motion to approve upon the contingency of the verification of a handicap placard or plate with a second by Flood. The motion was unanimously passed. HANDICAPPED RESIDENTIAL PARKING SIGN RENEWALS A. Robinson brought to the board a request that was presented by Captain Terry Hopkins for the approval of 5 Handicapped Parking Sign Renewals. Those are as follows: 1) William Powell — 35 South 15th Street 2) Byron Wadsworth — 206 North 22nd Street 3) Virginia Blanford — 711 SW "A" Street 4) Linda Girdler — 1215 North "C" Street 5) Angela Crawley - Youkon — 404 North 17t11 Street Flood made a motion to approve with a second by Lawson. The motion was unanimously passed. MARCH OF DIMES CHECKPOINT A. Robinson made a request to the board that was submitted by Fire Chief Mike Crawley for the approval of the use of the parking lot behind Fire Station No. 1 for the walkers in the 2008 "March Of Dimes March for Babies" on Saturday, May 3, 2008 starting at 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The request was also to include permission to set a port-a -pot on the side of the Fire House for use by the walkers. Lawson made a motion to approve with a second by Flood. The motion was unanimously passed. ADDENDUMS A. Robinson brought to the board a request that was presented by City Attorney Walt Chidester for the approval of Addendum No. 1 to Contract No. 10 -2008 with Susan Silberstein. He explained that this is just a continuation of the existing contract. Flood made a motion to approve with a second by Lawson. The motion was unanimously passed. BID OPENINGS A. Bid opening for Tree Planting for 2008. Those bids are as follows: 1) A Brown & Sons Nursery - $19,045.00 2) Rinehart's Lawn Care & Landscaping - $17,990.00 3) Pleasant View Nursery - $56,211.10 4) Ivan Foust Landscaping - $22,248.50 Board of Works Minutes April 3, 2008 Page 3 of 3 ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, on a motion duly made, seconded and passed unanimously.
