Town Seeks Nominations for the 2010 John W. Tolbert, Jr.,
Environmental Achievement Award
Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission Will Recognize Efforts
to Improve the Town’s Environment
Leesburg, VA (February 26, 2010) – The Town of Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission
is seeking nominations for the 2010 John W. Tolbert, Jr., Environmental Achievement Award.
This annual award program recognizes efforts by citizens, students, community groups and
businesses to improve the Town’s environment. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March
19, 2010.
Previous Tolbert Award winners include David Fuller, Kincaid Forest HOA, South Street Under,
Elizabeth Coates, Emily Zatorski, the Loudoun County Master Gardeners Demonstration Team,
and the Loudoun Country Day School. Examples of the environmental activities that have led to
recognition include:
Participation in recycling and use of recycled materials (including composting and
collection programs for materials that are recyclable or reusable)
Pollution prevention
Waste reduction
Protection of the natural environment
Clean up of litter or debris
Beautification of the environment
Environmental education
Monitoring the condition of Leesburg’s environment (streams, habitat, etc.)
Nominations should be in narrative format, no more than one page, describing the person,
group or business nominated, their environmental activities and why they deserve to be
recognized. Please be specific about their efforts and achievements, including quantifiable
measures, if possible. Submission of photos and other supporting documentation is
encouraged.

Nominations should be submitted to Irish Grandfield, Environmental Planner, at
igrandfield@leesburgva.gov, or hand delivered to the Leesburg Town Hall at 25 West Market
Street, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010. Awards will be announced in April and award
winners will be recognized at a Town Council meeting in May or June.
