“Keep Leesburg Beautiful 2010” Schedule of Events Announced
Community Clean‐Up Efforts Planned Throughout April 2010
Leesburg, VA (March 2, 2010) – The Town of Leesburg is extending the annual “Keep Leesburg
Beautiful” community clean‐up to the entire month of April. The expanded schedule will allow
more citizens, community groups and businesses to get involved, according Leesburg Town
Council Member Dave Butler, the council liaison for the event.
“In the past, having just a single day for Keep Leesburg Beautiful limited participation by
individuals and community groups. By holding activities throughout the month of April, not
only are we increasing the opportunities for participation, but we are also connecting Keep
Leesburg Beautiful with other established, environment‐related events like Earth Day and Arbor
Day,” Butler added.
Keep Leesburg Beautiful 2010 will kick off on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Ida Lee Park
Demonstration Garden, with activities beginning at 11:00 a.m. Following the opening day
ceremony, the Loudoun County Master Gardeners will give presentations at the Demonstration
Garden and the Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission will hold a rain barrel building
workshop. There is a fee required for the rain barrel workshop and pre‐registration is
encouraged. For more information, visit www.leesburgva.gov/KLB.
Other Keep Leesburg Beautiful events scheduled during April include:
• April 10 – Storm drain marking program. Events will take place in various residential
neighborhoods throughout Town.
• April 17 & 18 – Leesburg’s 20th Annual Flower & Garden Festival. Visit the Keep
Leesburg Beautiful booth on the Town Green. Volunteers will be distributing clean‐up
supplies and accepting registrations for the Community Challenge (see below).
• April 24 – School beautification projects. Planting and clean‐up projects at various
school locations.

Details about these events, and additional activities as they are scheduled, will be posted on
the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov/KLB.
In addition to the scheduled events and activities, the Keep Leesburg Beautiful Community
Challenge will run during the entire month of April. All citizens, neighborhood groups,
community organizations and businesses are encouraged to get involved with Keep Leesburg
Beautiful by taking part in clean‐up or beautification efforts. Examples of Community Challenge
activities include picking up litter along public rights‐of‐way, marking storm drains, and planting
trees or other landscaping on public or HOA‐owned land. These events can occur at any time
during April. For litter pick‐up activities, the Town of Leesburg will provide safety vests, gloves
and trash bags. Participating groups will be recognized with Certificates of Appreciation at a
Town Council Meeting and listed on the Town website. Registration information and forms are
available on the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov/KLB.
