HomeMy Public PortalAbout12/08/1992GREENCASTLE COMMON COUNCIL • Regular Session December 8, 1992 The Greencastle Common Council met in regular session on Tuesday, December 8, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. at Tzouanakis Intermediate School. On call of the roll the following members were shown to be present: Councilor Toni Roach, Councilor Jerry Calbert, Councilor Sue Murray, Councilor Charles Miles, Councilor Mike Rokicki. Also present was city attorney Larry Wilson. Public Petitions and Comments: Steve Buchanan was present to express a concern about drainage in the area of Main and Maple. Mr. Wright indicated that there are three possible ways to correct the drainage problem and that he would work with the new city engineer after the first of the year. Also appearing was Phil Junker, Director of Greencastle Development Center, to present a request for continued funding of GDC by the City. Mr. Junker indicated that the GDC Board is presently working on private sector funding with a goal of $40,000.00. The GDC Board is requesting matching funding from the City. Mr. Junker also noted that GDC Board meetings take place at 7:45 a.m. on the second Friday of each month and are open to the public. Councilor Murray asked about the 1993 mission of the GDC. Mr. Junker responded that attracting new industry and business is always a goal, however, expansion and retention of existing industry and business is a foremost. He continued that the GDC will also be putting forth a more county wide effort. Councilor Rokicki asked if CACFID had yet been approached, preferring that that Commission make recommendation to the Council. Councilor Murray clarified that the CACFID has joint jurisdiction over the Industrial Development Fund. • Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the November 10 regular session were presented to Council. Councilor Murray moved approval. This motion was seconded by Councilor Calbcrl. Councilor Rokicki requested a comment be added concerning his question about the demolition of the house on Liberty Street. With that addition the motion was unanimously passed. Department Reports: In addition to the monthly statistical reports the following comments were made Charlene Nichols noted that the Frazier Street sewer line and the Keightly Road sewer line have been tested and are ready for hook up. Councilor Murray asked access for the residents of Foxridge during the sewer line construction. Mrs. Nichols indicated that the contractor is presently working with residents in the area. Chief White noted that John Martin was added to the department as of December 5, 1992. He continued that the volunteer force should be up to twelve members after the first of the year. Chief White also reported the formation of the Fire Department Capital Equipment Committee that is presently working on the procedures and funding of a new rescue vehicle. Chief Hanlon reported that a TDD has been installed in the dispatch center. Jim Wright noted that Friday, December 11 will be the last leaf pick up day. He also reported that the street department has taken over the old state highway facility on College and that Avenue B will be paved this week. CC 12/08/92 Page 3 • Special Council meeting were called for December 29, 1992 at 4:30 p.m. and January 4, 1993 at 4:30 p.m. Councilor Rokicki distributed for Council review a sample ordinance from Vincennes in regard to rental housing. The 1993 schedule of holidays was approved by consensus of Council. With no further business, Councilor Murray moved for adjournment.
