Tiffin Planning and Zoning August 1, 2001
A regular meeting of the Tiffm Planning and Zoning Commission was brought to order
by Chair Steve Berner at 6:30 p.m. at the Tiffm Fire Station.. Members present: Steve
Berner, Dave Shaffer, Melvin Reeve. Absent: Terry Richardson and Tina Walls. Also
present: Mayor Glenn Potter,Jim Bartels, Karin Dils and representative from US
Cellular.
Motion Berner, second Reeve to approve printed minutes. Ayes: Reeve, Berner, and
Shaffer. Absent: Richardson, and Walls. Motion carried.
Possible park plans were reviewed by the commission. Members discussed the need for
additional soccer locations on the east end of the park. Motion Reeve, second Shaffer to
provide three recommendations to city council on park matters. 1. Fill seats on
park/recreation committee with possible nominations being: Dave Shaffer, Mark
Petersen, Trish Berner, Jerry Cox and Rod Walls. 2. Further study of advertising for
backstops or study of alternate fundraising. 3. Notification of farm termination for
upcoming year.
Planning and Zoning received copies of the Tiffm Corridor Beautification study provided
by the Urban Planning Graduate Program University of Iowa.
Kevin of US Cellular visited with P&Z regarding options for land purchase or lease space
for a radio antennae near the location of the new water tower.
Motion Berner, second Reeve to recommend that the city council pursue an effort to
work with US Cellular to provide a location for radio tower, agreeing to find a location
for a tower,but perhaps a better location than one near the new water tower. Ayes:
Reeve, Berner, Shaffer. Absent: Walls, and Richardson. Motion carried.
Member Steve Berner asked that the planning and zoning commission begin study of
additional zoning levels to the current ordinance.
Motion Shaffer, second Reeve to adjourn. Motion carried. 7:49 p.m.
