Leesburg Town Council Approves Special Exceptions
Movie theater, McDonalds and daycare projects move forward
Leesburg, VA (April 15, 2010) – On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, the Leesburg Town Council gave its
approval to Special Exception applications for one new and two existing Leesburg businesses.
The Village at Leesburg received approval for a 12‐screen movie theater with 1,900 seats and
6,000 square feet of restaurant space. In February 2010, the Village at Leesburg announced
that Cobb Theatres, based in Birmingham, Alabama, had signed a leased for the movie theater.
The theater will offer in‐theater dining as well as an upscale bar & grill element. Pending
approval of the site plan, the Village at Leesburg is planning a summer 2010 groundbreaking for
the building that will house the theater on the second floor with ground‐level retail space,
which will be located at the western end of the development.
Located at the South King Street Shopping Center, the Leesburg Open Arms Christian Child
Development Center received approval to increase its enrollment from 198 to 288 children.
The daycare center will occupy additional space in its existing building at 818 South King Street
to accommodate the increase enrollment. The special exception application did not involve any
changes to the existing building.
The McDonalds Restaurant at 335 East Market Street received approval for a new restaurant
with a drive‐through lane. The existing restaurant, which was built in 1967, will be demolished.
The drive‐through lane of the new restaurant will be open 24 hours. Company officials have
indicated that they hope to break ground in July, with a three‐month construction cycle for the
new building.
