B. Bee City Subcommittee There was no additional update. C. Staff and board updates Trueblood reported that: • The bee hotel in the Gold Park pollinator garden has native insect inhabitants. David Hinkle, who built the structure and is maintaining it for three years, has learned bamboo is not good for the larvae because it retains too much moisture. Hinkle will replace the bamboo with cardboard. He will also train Chelsea Gailey, a Parks and Recreation Board member, on how to maintain the hotel. He also told Trueblood that extending the garden near the structure would be beneficial to the insects. • A tree died and fell in the Town Cemetery. • Some dead trees on East Corbin Street were removed from the right of way. • Landscaper Christina King will plant in Murray Street Park the following week. Trueblood hopes to have a yard hydrant installed for watering at that location. • Girl Scout Desi Parker will create a pollinator garden in Hillsborough Heights Park. She will first bring her plan to this board. • With permission and at the request of the Orange County Historical Museum board, some volunteer crape myrtles were removed from the bank in front of the museum. • Some pruning and tree removal is needed along North Churton Street between West Tryon and West Union streets. Harris agreed. The Tree Board said it is fine with Trueblood making decisions about trees along that stretch of right of way. Harris noted that the first workday at the Gold Park pollinator garden is in March. 8. Adjournment Harris adjourned the meeting at 10:06 a.m.
