Home My Public Portal About12-24 Special Event Permit to Hire of Duty Police Officers 1st Reading: SEPTEMBER 26, 2012 2nd Reading: OCTOBER 24, 2012 Public Hearing: OCTOBER 24, 2012 Adopted: OCTOBER 24, 2012 Effective Date: OCTOBER 25, 2012 Sponsored by: Commissioner Holmes ORDINANCE NO. 12-24 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, REQUIRING SPECIAL EVENT PERMIT APPLICANTS TO HIRE OFF-DUTY OPA- LOCKA POLICE OFFICERS TO PROIVDE SECURITY AT SPECIAL EVENTS THAT ARE HELD IN THE CITY OF OPA- LOCKA; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION OF RECITALS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICT AND REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND CODIFICATION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, there exists a need in the City for additional security at Special Events, where large crowds are present; and WHEREAS, the Opa-locka Police Department has qualified officers who can provide off-duty security services; and WHEREAS, applications for Special Event Permits shall include a requirement to hire an off-duty Opa-locka police officer to provide security. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA: Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true, and the same are hereby made a specific part of this Ordinance. Section 2. All Special Event Permits issued by the City of Opa-locka henceforth shall include a requirement that one or more off-duty Opa-locka Police Officers be hired to provide security for the event, on terms to be established by the City Manager. Section 3. REPEALER. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section 4. SEVERABILITY. If any portion, section, phrase or clause of this Ordinance is held invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such ruling shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this Ordinance. Section 5. CODIFICATION. This ordinance shall be codified in the Code of Ordinances when the code is recodified. Section 6. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall upon adoption, become effective immediately.
