Change of Venue Announced for Second Downtown
Improvement Project Stakeholder Meeting
Leesburg, VA (April 27, 2010) – In a move made for the convenience of downtown business
owners, the second stakeholders meeting for the Downtown Improvement Project, originally
scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2010, at the Holiday Inn Carradoc Hall, has been moved. The new
location will be in the lower level conference rooms of Leesburg Town Hall, 25 West Market Street.
The event will still be Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm as originally scheduled.
The second stakeholder meeting being held by the Town of Leesburg and its consultant, AECOM,
will be in the form of an input session that invites interested businesses owners, property owners
and residents to once again come and be part of the downtown improvement project.
The first stakeholder event was held March 17, 2010, and the Town’s consultant received a host of
information from a variety of sources. This meeting will differ from the first, as the consultant will
be presenting illustrations of specific design elements of the overall “design and implementation
strategy.” These illustrations will be representative of the public input received from the first series
of meetings.
“This is where the project gets exciting,” said Ryan Bouma, Project Manager for AECOM. “Now
people will see specific designs developed based upon their input.”
The design and implementation strategy that will emerge from this effort will be the roadmap of
various physical improvements associated the Downtown Improvement Project. Staff anticipates
Town Council review of the overall design and implementation strategy, as well as specific projects
associated with it, in the summer of 2010. It is anticipated that construction could begin in summer
2011.
