TO: ALL MEMBERS - TYBEE ISLAND MEMORIAL COLOR GUARD FROM: JAMES N. CARTER — C.G. COMMANDER SUBJECT: LETTER OF INTRODUCTION Friends and comrades, I would like to personally thank each and all of you for allowing me the great honor of being the commander of what I know in the near future will become a very fine and professional color guard unit. I will strive tirelessly to commit myself to the duties and tasks at hand, the will and welfare of all members and promote the cohesion that bonds us together as one, no superiors, no inferiors, no attitudes, all for one and one for all. Friends, I have always believed in the old adage, that for want of a nail the shoe was lost, for want of the shoe the horse was lost, for want of a horse the soldier was lost and for want of the solider the battle was lost. Comrads, we are all nails, we are all shoes, we are all horses and above all we are all soldiers. Members we need and must have solid cohesive camaraderie and mutual companionship in this unit. With it we can together as a unit of one, excel far beyond the highest expectations of our supporters and peers, without it we will together as a mob face certain and absolute failure. I know it will be said and asked by some, you are not active military, why put so much effort, dedication and pride into a unit such as this. Color Guard Members, it is our bound and duty as a professional, patriotic unit to give 110% effort to practice, parades, competitions, special events or whenever and wherever we dawn our uniforms and carry the colors in honor of a nation in which we all so freely live. As all units deserving of merit in the past have done, we practice, practice, practice, we march, march, march, and if opportunity avails itself we compete, we celebrate and then we party, party, party. My fellow members, this is what unity is all about, this is what brotherhood is all about, this is what pride in our community, pride in our nation and pride in ourselves is all about.
