Rain Barrel Workshops Offered for Leesburg Residents
Leesburg, VA (April 30, 2010) – Spring has sprung and it is time to start thinking about how to
water your flower beds and gardens during dry spells this summer. An economical and
practical way for homeowners to conserve water and save money is to use a rain barrel. In
addition, rain barrels reduce runoff, as the water is
collected before it picks up sediment and contaminants
that pollute our streams and rivers.
The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District, in
partnership with the Leesburg Environmental Advisory
Commission (EAC), will be offering rain barrel workshops in
Leesburg in May and June. Residents can make a rain
barrel to take home or purchase a pre‐made one. Dates of
the workshops are:
• Wednesday, May 12, 2010
• Thursday, May 13, 2010
• Tuesday, June 1, 2010
• Thursday, June 3, 2010
All of the workshops will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Tuscarora Creek Park in Leesburg. The
workshops last approximately one hour. The rain barrel kits to make a barrel at a workshop
are $50 each and pre‐made barrels are $65 each, plus tax. The Leesburg EAC is offering a $25
discount on the purchase of a rain barrel to Leesburg residents as an added incentive to
promote water conservation. Discount limited to one per household.
Participants are advised to dress appropriately if they will be constructing their own barrel. A
registration form can be downloaded from the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District
website at www.loudounsoilandwater.org. For more information, please call Suzanne Brown
at the Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District at 703‐777‐2075.
